Maingear's Pulse 11-inch gaming laptop has designs on M11x mourners
Gamers who'd been eyeing up an Alienware M11x may have been rightly irked when the 11-inch form factor was yanked off shelves. Fortunately, Maingear is stepping in with a laptop that slots an Ivy Bridge CPU into equally compact hardware. The Pulse 11 has an 11.6-inch 1366 x 768 LED-backlit display, supports up to 16GB of dual-channel DDR3 RAM while packing HDMI-out 1.4a, USB 3.0 and THX TruStudio Pro sound. Graphics-wise, there's an NVIDIA GeForce GT650M with 2GB RAM for fragging your enemies, and an Intel GMA HD GPU for fragging your spreadsheets. The hardware will begin shipping on June 3rd, with prices starting from $1,099 for a Core i5, 8GB RAM and a 320GB HDD.

Judd Apatow's 'This Is 40' Trailer: Five Key Scenes
Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd are back as Debbie and Pete, picking up in their marriage where they left off in "Knocked Up."

Ever wonder what happened to Alison's sister and brother-in-law from "Knocked Up"? The dynamic duo of Debbie (Leslie Mann) and Pete (Paul Rudd) had a few key scenes in the film, including Debbie taking Alison (Katherine Heigl) to the club where she meets Seth Rogen's character.
Now Judd Apatow aims to brings us back into the lives of the couple as Debbie celebrates her 40th birthday in "This Is 40." Continually lying about her age as she refuses to accept it, Debbie wonders if she's living the best life possible and decides she and Pete need to make some changes.
"I've made a list," she tells her husband in a scene from the trailer, which was released on Friday (April 27). "It's the 'do-better' list. We're 40 years old, if we don't do it now, when are we going to do it?"

Counting the Rings
At the gynecologist's office, the nurses try to figure out if Debbie was born in 1972, '74 or '75 since her paperwork lists a range of dates of birth. When Debbie finally blurts out, "I lie about my age, OK? OK?" her gynecologist responds, "I know how old you are. I'm counting the rings." And with that line, we know typical Apatow humor will be on display in this flick. After that exchange, Debbie decides it's time for a change and makes a list of the top three things she and her husband need to focus on now that they're in their 40s: exercise, the kids' education and being patient.
Exercise Every Day
In one scene, Debbie works with a personal trainer, which allows the filmmakers to bring back Jason Segel's "Knocked Up" character, also named Jason. "I can turn your body into a boner machine," he tells Debbie. When she points out that every woman gives him a boner, he replies, "Don't sell yourself short," before adding in a whisper, "Barb doesn't give me a boner." Looks like Jason's crush on Alison's sister never went away.
Get Involved in School
As Pete confronts a mother whose son is picking on his daughter, "Bridesmaids" star Melissa McCarthy makes a cameo as the confrontational mommy. She tells Pete to get his daughter's meds right and Pete calls her son an animal. When Pete gives her shoulder a little shove, she screams, "You touched my nipple!" When he tells her he merely touched her below her shoulder, she replies, "I have very high nipples!" How Rudd kept from breaking into laughter during that scene is beyond us.
More Patience With the Kids
Another key scene opens with Pete and Debbie's daughters pulling each other's hair as they fight in the back seat of the car. It then cuts to them at the dinner table, where Debbie announces they're cutting back on the girls' gadget use so they'll spend more time outside. She suggests instead that they build a fort, to which the exasperated eldest daughter exclaims, "And do what in the fort?" When Debbie says, "You don't need technology," the youngest daughter holds an iPhone up to her mouth and says, "No technology," as a monkey on the screen mimics her words.
Payback Time
The final scene shows Pete spread-eagle on a bed, holding a mirror up to his crotch trying to look at ... something. (We honestly don't want to know what.) When he asks Debbie to take a look, she asks if they can just keep a small shred of mystery in their relationship. Pete replies, "I saw you have babies — payback time." At least being in your 40s isn't boring.
"This Is 40" is set to hit theaters Christmas 2012.

Usher To Preview Looking For Myself At Off-Broadway Show
Singer tells MTV News 'Fuerza Bruta' matches the 'more artistic' music on his upcoming album.

<P>This Saturday (and this Saturday only), Usher will appear in New York City's "Fuerza Bruta," an off-Broadway show where no one speaks, but the story is told through bright lights, music and dancing. In the lead role of Running Man, <a href="/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a> will also use the show to preview his June album release, <a href="/news/articles/1682140/usher-looking-for-myself.jhtml"><i>Looking for Myself.</i></a> </P><P> </P><P>Fans in the audience will likely get closer than they've ever been to the singer, as the audience stands during the performance, becoming another member of the company. With several weeks until his album release, Usher explained to MTV News at a rehearsal why he wanted to use this show to preview tracks. </P><P> </P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:764205/cp~vid%3D764205%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A764205" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed> </P><P> </P><P>"I felt like the natural elements as well as the emotion of 'Fuerza Bruta' would definitely speak or be significant to some of the stories and I guess hopefully a connection [was there]," he explained of tying this performance to his album. We tried it, I got on Running Man and it worked." </P><P> </P><P>The show will stream his entire album, which drops June 12, and he thinks the mind-bending artistry of "Fuerza Bruta" works with the sound he's created on it. "This is more artistic of an album than I've had in history," he said. "And I felt like yeah, it would be a lot for me, but I was willing to at least try it. From the Editor's Desk: Android Central v3.0; HTC Frequencies; Samsung's next Galaxy awaits
Welcome, ladies and germs, to Android Central v3.0.
What you see before you here is the third major iteration of the design of the best damn Android website in the world, bar none. Born of some incredible designers and coders, alongside the news people you know and trust and the forums administrators, advisers and moderators who guide you through the Android world 365 days a year, this is, I can say without hesitation, the best version of Android Central yet.
What's new? We've got the full changelog in the forums. (And, frankly, with the pace at which we're working, it's likely to be slightly out of date by the time you read this. We don't sleep much.) The short version is a cleaner design in the forums and blogs, and more options on the front page.
We've been experimenting with a couple homepage views for a while now. One is the traditional blog view. Big images and stories that might be short, or might take you a few thousand words deep. The other is a headline view that shows you the latest information at a glance. (It actually takes me back to the old days of reading the Associated Press wire for hours on end, with only timestamps, category codes and story slugs to guide me.) If you're an RSS junkie, this is the view for you. (But don't worry, our traditional RSS feeds are still there, too.)
The Headlines bar is your portal to customizing the news the way you want to receive it. Just want tablet news? Hit the button, and that's all you'll see. Only want to see the latest news and reviews on apps? There's a button for that, too. On the right-hand side is where you'll find the buttons for full blog and headline views. And the "Latest Discussions" tab brings you the latest forum threads, which is where the real action is. Members helping members. Q&A sessions. You name it, it's in the forums.
The best part, however, is that we're not done. Not by a long shot. We can still do better, and we will do better. (Be sure to leave your feedback on this post, and in the forums.)And it'll all happen with you all, the Android Central members, leading the way. So from all of us here at AC, from the writers to the designers to the coders to the mods and admins and advisers, thanks for being here. Thanks for pushing us to do better every day. ASUS Transformer Pad TF300 review
ASUS is in a bit of a pickle, but it's one that most manufacturers would love to be in. When designing the Transformer Pad TF300, they had to ask themselves how to refresh what has become an iconic symbol to Android tablet fans. The original ASUS Eee Pad Transformer was a big hit for the company last year, and anyone who has used one can tell you why. It's a great tablet in its own right, but the addition of an excellent keyboard dock puts it on a sort of a pedestal to the folks using it. It's more than a tablet, it's not quite a laptop, but it found a way to fill a need most people didn't realize was there to fill. To describe it in one word -- genius.
In this case the question is more difficult than the answer. You simply take what works, keep it the way people love it, and put the best hardware and software under the screen. The addition of the Tegra 3 SoC, and ASUS' special blend of Ice Cream Sandwich to the formula is exactly how the TF300 should have been done, and is how it was done. Hit the break to see if it worked.
  A great tablet in its own right, and the addition of the keyboard dock puts it in a league of its own. The Tegra 3 chip chews through multimedia and gaming like butter, and the quality control on our unit was excellent. there's also a surprisingly good 1.3MP front facing camera, which works great for videoconferencing. |  The audio, while loud enough, sounds a bit tinny and there was obvious crackling at full volume. Not enough to be concerned about normally, but ASUS is touting a "Supreme" audio experience and I'm not feeling it. Video artifacts are apparent on the display while the tablet is docked in the keyboard. |
  There's a lot of choice if you are in the market for an Android tablet. If the idea of having the docking station appeals to you, and you don't want to spend a little extra for a slightly better display on the Prime, the TF300 is a perfect choice. Even if you're not interested in a docking station, the Tegra 3 and very clear front facing camera makes the TF300 a wise purchase. | |
